Our focus is on engaging with the public and encouraging voter participation to elect individuals who hold themselves to a higher standard in the public arena and who understand the principles of good governance. Our efforts include:
- Identifying and building a coalition of like-minded current and former state legislators and candidates.
- Pursuing an outreach and media campaign to include op-eds, print, radio, and television interviews to advocate for good governance principles and practices.
- Encourage, support, and work with voters and voter advocacy groups who support these principles.
We believe that elected officials are most effective when they:
- Focus on governing (e.g., doing the work) with an open mind to solve problems.
- Possess honesty, integrity, and respect for other voices and positions.
- Reject violence, extremism, and toxic political practices.
Voters can engage by:
- Supporting and advocating for candidates who believe in good governance and the principles stated above, even when they don’t agree with every position held by the candidate.
- Talking peaceably about the candidates who support these principles
- Social media
- Letters to the editor
- Voting for such candidates in November
Elected officials and candidates can engage by:
- Promoting good governance through policy discussions
- Engaging in healthy civil discourse and listening to all constituents
- Holding themselves to a higher standard in their interactions
- Asking themselves: IS my party right on this issue?
